Moorgate Subway Station

Description

The Moorgate subway station lets out on the northern bank of the Gotham river right next to exit ramp for the Dock Bridge, it is the last stop before the tunnel and everything past here is industrial district. To the northeast is the Haze and beyond that China town proper, directly north are the filth of cardboard city and the serenity of the Temple of the Five Dragons while St Bridget's church is off to the West.

Just beyond the shroud, in the Shadowlands, stands the Moorgate haunt. Crumbling catacombs and dismal tunnels stretch off in all directions and provide sanctuary for countless waifs and strays of the restless dead. Any Wraith who comes here is welcome to find a space and to make a place for herself so long as she respects others and doesn't bring too much heat from the Hierarchy down upon the other residents. Nobody claims to be in charge here, because the nail that stands too high is inevitably hammered down, and so the politics are undefined. In the bowels of the city the Restless share alliances with other sewerfolk such as the Sluagh and the Nosferatu of the Sunless Kingdoms and some tunnels lead into forgotten byways through the tempest known only to the eldest tenants and a few Ferrymen.

Traffic through this haunt is busy and many travelling Wraiths stay only for as long as they need before moving on to pastures new. Some Wraiths are bound to the city by the strange foes among the Giovanni vampires and come here when not compelled to serve these brutish masters, while others come to raise Renegade armies or converts to their heresies, before the locals band together to expel them.

Atmosphere

Ever since the horrific train crash that turned this subterranean complex into a haunt the area has held a aura of despair. In the intervening years the Subway station has become a favoured place for people to commit suicide, with three times to usual amount of 'jumpers' ending up spread along the track. Now, with an endless stream of runaways, lost souls and enslaved Wraiths cowering in the tunnels, the Tunnel is a place were nobody dares smile for fear of reprisal and the restless live by the single ethic of 'looking out for number one'.
