Description
It all looked like a twisted version of Victorian civilization. Upon entering Club DV8- a modestly sized nightclub in the heart of Neon City- one was immediately taken in by the sophisticated but unusual conglomeration of design. It was gothic, but quasi-futuristic.
As one entered the open French doors, it was a dark reflection of the surreal. Inside laid a hexagonal shaped room with massive arched windows letting in the bright neon twinkling lights of Gotham's skyline on one side. It looked almost like a Tim Burton film, with hues of black, grey and white marked by the occasional almost Technicolor tinted accent. The room itself was reminiscent of a Victorian manor. Archways led from area to area, with luxurious, thick, dark purple, red and black draperies hung artistically and thoughtfully around and between the arches of the windows. Wooden Corinthian columns supported the balcony above, which hugged the upper level of all walls but that which held the massive windows.
Yet this old Victorian feel was somehow skewed in a futuristic way. Sections of wall were brushed steel... the columns were in fact cast iron black metal, as were the banisters of the two spiralling staircases up to the second level. The brick walls holding up the windows was thick grey blocks which resembles rough hewn castle stone. It was broken by the occasional corrugated steel beam.
Near the windows was a comfortable sitting area, with a series of six black leather couches placed in back to back U-shapes. Between them were large coffee tables. Along the walls were high, round cast iron tables and high, no-back stools where gothy patrons sipped at dark drinks.
The centre of the affair sported a large circular dance floor made up of dark textured steel. From its borders and above flashed the beams of Technicolor laser light, illuminating the dancing throng with odd flashes.
Atmosphere
Through the hidden speakers and wisps of surreal dry-ice created mists that seemed to reach in unusual tendrils towards the twirling dancers was a low, thumping, depressed mockery of classical music. Classical music with heavy drums- almost oppressive- and electronically enhanced melodies and harmonies.
