Where to go in Gotham City

A glorious place, a glorious age, I tell you! A very Neon Renaissance - And the myths that actually touched you at that time - not Hercules, Orpheus, Ulysses and Aeneas - but Superman, Captain Marvel, Batman.
- Tom [Thomas Kennerly, Jr.] Wolfe, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test

DOWNTOWN:
CHINATOWN, LOW RENTS VILLE, LITTLE EGYPT, LITTLE ITALY & DARKTOWN.

How many city safety regulations exist? The answer depends on the district.
In the uptown districts, the list is endless. In the Ghetto districts South of the city centre, Chinatown, Low rentsville, Darktown, almost none. Garbage and other fire hazards, blocked access routes, faulty fire hydrants and vandalised phones. A building with every window pane unbroken is a challenge here and won't last long.

Without exception, every shop in downtown has a strong grill over the windows and a shotgun under the counter. Business survival down here is a matter of siege mentality. The community knows it can expect no aid from the police or other services. The Gang colours here are a far better security force than any of the boys in blue. Every area has its attendant gang of teenagers and trouble makers. Drug dealers wait by jacked up hot rods while prostitutes walk the streets wherever they can be assured of high visibility and a quick escape. Pawn shops and grocery stores share the ground with diners and doss houses, serving the community in a variety of ways.

Downtown is the southern sprawl of Gotham. Within its degradation are several ghettos. To the West is Little italy and Darktown, whose projects include Le Quartier Haitien while the Eastern most section by the bay is Chinatown. Central Downtown consists of Low rentsville and Cardboard city, with Little Egypt, the small Gypsy Ghetto on the eastern boarder with China town.

24 Little Italy

Darktown & (25) Le Quarter Haitian

Darktown is the Afro American Ghetto, sometimes reffered to as the Projects by the politically correct or the Hood by its denizens.

14 Gotham Police Head Quarters

The home of Gotham's Finest is a large and ominous building.

16 The Lachrymatory

This new club has been set up in an old Church on the west bank of the Gotham River. It uses the Christian symbology in its design with Stained glass windows depicting raves, a DJ in the pulpit and the toilets in the Vestry. The Alter/stage is dominated by one of the largest baptismal fonts in the world. A huge stone dish shaped chalice with a 6 foot circumferance. The organ, Alter and pews remain. The Choirs stalls are the bar. The crypt is left for activities best left to dim lighting.

17 - DV8

Right in the heart of downtown is a new Club, DV8, run my Gotham's newest Bachelor and heir to a family fortune.

34 Moorgate Subway Station

The site of an awful Train crash! 147 people lost their lives when a signal man had a heart attack at the wheel(?) of a subway train. (The real Moorgate is in London. It is a good example of how I envision Haunts. I include it here as a testimony to those people who died in the real crash, which is more horrific due to higher numbers of lost lifes and the real reason the train crashed)

28 Little Egypt

33 The Haze and China Town

A series of alleyways and shops in Chinatown. Among the pawn shops, high tech electrical goods, massage parlors and restaurants is the Ackril fireworks factory. Head quarters of Khan Ackril, the Oriental Crime lord and leader of the Tongs.

The Garage and Workshop of one Toby wong; Mechanic, Car 'refurbisher' and engineering genius.

27 Temple Of The Five Dragons

A Shinto temple and martial Arts dojo run by Orange robed monks. The Temple of the Five Dragons, nestled in the centre of Chinatown, is popular with fitness fanatics and seekers of wisdom alike. From the air one can just see how the roads and contours of the land spread away from this focal point and should one attempt to join the dots formed by important locations elsewhere in the city ....

26 The Chaste Dragon

A discreet bar and Bordello catering to the discerning Customer.

31 St Bridgets Church

Almost within sight of the Chaste Dragon and Cardboard City, St Bridgets Pastor, Father Bellamy runs a free soup kitchen and homeless centre. He has also co-opted two doctors into giving free health care once a week on a Tuesday.

32 Cardboard City

East of the Chaste Dragon and St Bridgets is a large expanse of waste-ground littered with derelict buildings. It is here that the majority of Gotham's homeless and destitute dwell. Cardboard city is also home to a large pack of feral dogs who have found the Bum's the perfect company.

NEON CITY: The Rack

South of the business district and North of Downtown is Neon City, a squalid and enterprising band of small businesses, Clubs, Casino's, bars and book makers. To most of Gotham's well to do, Neon City and Downtown are indistinguishable from each other. However, to residents of Neon City, the small comfort of being able to look down on the residents of the slums and ghettos is vitally important.

21 Raindogs

Deep in the heart of the Neon City, rests a typical Bar. Raindog's has long been recognised as a haunt for those that no one else will tolerate. The under classes are here, those that no one else will love. They have a saying in Neon City; "Everyone comes to Raindog's"
You can find it on the main drag, it's easy to spot-if you can't see the neon bottles of Bud and Rolling Rock, pouring hour after hour in the windows, there's the big red neon sign over the door. It's kind of a give-away, sure, but in Neon City you don't win prizes for taste or subtlety.

20 Mike's Place Occult store & Bookshop

Supplier of both the mundane and the truly exotic suppliers of the craft, Mike's place is a freindly and enigmatic store patronised by a variety of different individuals. It has regular talks and lectures from guests as well as serving as a meeting place and contact board for Occultists.

THE BAY

15 The Colt Mansion

If you know anything about the Winchester Ghost house, then you will know about this place. Its a direct rip off. (hey plagerism and the real world are sometimes much better than hard work and fiction)

8 Isle Of Crabs Funfair

Until three years ago, the Larger of the Twin Isles of Crabs housed a huge amusement park. Now sadly closed down for renovations that never began it sits quiet and forlorn in the bay waiting investment and a new lease of life.

11 Isle Of Crabs Caern

The Smaller of the two Islands is popular with fishermen and water sports enthusiasts alike.

30 Khan Akril's Palace
The Headquarters and personal pleasure Dome of the Oriental Crimeboss and his united Tong's.

39 The Peliponisia

The Wreck of the Peliponisia pleasure boat used to be popular with divers and Tourist trips but recent accidents have forced the City council to cordon it off while plans are made to make it safe by removal or detonation.

36 The Docks
Gotham's ancient Lighthouse sits out on a promatory and greets ships as they enter the bay. Amidst the Docks that made Gotham such a vital port in the last century several warehouses have been converted into Yuppie appartments, sound studios or even cheap office complexes.

41 The Reclamation Industrial Area

South of the Gotham River is the vast industrial complex that houses much of Gotham's employers. Factories and industry dominate the once water logged marshlands that marked the southern most reaches of the city. The Freight airport has also helped keep the district from going under. Changing Breeds, Native Americans and sensitive mortals have long held that a powerful secret is hidden somewhere to the south of the city and it is not unusual for members of the supernatural community to hunt here in the hope of finding something.

35 The Sunless Kingdoms

Down below, the underground. The Bowels of the City. And, as with all things, the condition of the bowels are a good indication of the condition of the entity as a whole.
