Melcom announces 100's of new jobs

By Louis Cypher

Multinational mega-corporation Melcom International has today announced that it will be hiring almost 200 new employees, mostly labourers and skilled technicians, for its underwater power division. Hiring has already begun in earnest to expand upon the pre-existing specialist teams working in the Gotham River and on the Isle of the Crabs Southern expanse. The company recently branched out into the utilities market and will be providing Gotham with higher capacity electricity and gas mains, as well as DSL connections for a more modern phone system. Mr Neid, spokesman for the company, promised that all of this will be achieved with a minimum disturbance to the citizens of Gotham as the vast majority of the cable and pipelines will be laid in the bay itself.

Melcom already provides high-grade equipment to the medical profession, building emergency room equipment and a vast array of monitoring and self-medication technology. The company also ranks high in the top ten suppliers for many military contracts in the US and overseas and was warded a government award for excellence last year with its combined sciences development contracts. Its commercial affiliates have long been leaders in the petrochemical and biochemistry market, with further branches making headway into the entertainment and financial market.

Mr Neid told a press conference yesterday that Gotham would be the first city to benefit from their cutting edge research and development and that once Gotham was networked into the citywide grid, Melcom intended to seek contracts in many other cities. He predicted that within the next three years Melcom would be employing as many as a thousand new employees in their Utilities division. A bright and fortuitous future for Gotham and the US is promised if Melcom can present their work in a positive light and show other city councils the full extent of their capabilities.

Peace returns to city

After several days of unrest and heightened crime rates in the downtown areas, Police Commissioner Gordon gave a short and rather abrupt interview today in which he assured the public ‘all was well’. Gordon explained that certain undisclosed elements in the criminal underworld had attempted a coup and had enflamed underlying tensions in Chinatown and Darktown. He went on to confirm that the catalyst for these gang wars was over and that the threat had been eliminated.

Reports are still sketchy but it appears that the past few days violence has led to a heavy casualty rate in Downtown and that the hospitals have been overworked
responding to the emergency situations. The Police department canceled all short term leave on Thursday evening and the Mayor put his John hancock to a blanket Overtime fund. Despite the commisioners assurances, these remain in effect for saturday.
