Physical Description
Sue Lei is oriental and originally hails from Hong Kong. Standing at just over 5’6” in height she is of a slim yet athletic build. Her long dark hair is normally worn lose, thrown back over her shoulder to reveal the long earrings she often favours.
She always dresses practical with little or no make-up at all, her clothes are often designer labels and she is always well turned out. When she does dress casually it is comfortable clothing that allows her freedom of movement, but she would never go out in polite society dressed in such a fashion.
There is a certain grace about Sue Lei that is evident when she moves, all of her motions flow together like that of a dancer or a gymnast, enhancing the already exotic allure from her being oriental.
Although she is not overly pretty in looks the fact that she always has a smile on her face brightens her countenance to make slightly more appealing.
Personality
Her work as a Public Relations Officer for Dusk Industries is perfectly suited to Sue Lei’s personality. She is polite with everyone she meets, even if they are particularly angry or upset with her and as a negotiator has a knack for finding the middle ground. Professionally she is very dedicated and thorough person and always manages to get the results that her bosses are after. She always tries to be prepared and will go to a meeting with more than just one idea to air.
Sue Lei is just as easy going in her personal life, which she tries to keep separate from her career. Her innocence is probably an offshoot of her upbringing in the higher society of Gotham.
Story
Sue Lee is aged 28 and is the daughter of eminent medical professor Chun Lee who works for a Melcom as a medical researcher. Her mother died while she was younger of a cancerous growth, despite her father's best efforts to cure her. In fact it was the cure that her father tried that killed her mother and she has distanced herself from him because of it. Chun himself went in to a fit of depression following his wife's death and has not really emerged from it, choosing instead to lose himself in his work.
With her fathers self-imposed exile Sue Lee sought her older brothers company. Chang Lee was a police officer and practically raised his sister with the absence of their mother. He made sure that she had a good education and knew how to act like a lady. Sue used her brother as a role model, helping him with his training and also learning from him at the same time.
When she was 19 her brother was killed in a gangland war in Chinatown and she applied to join the police force to seek her revenge. Her father vetoed this application so she went by herself into Chinatown seeking revenge for her brother's murder.
Unfortunately for Sue Lee her adversary proved to be more capable than she was and received quite a beating for her efforts and was hospitalised for a number of weeks. The beating was not without some success, as she found out that one of the men responsible for her brother's murder was Khan Ackril, a mobster that dealt in art treasures. After she was out of hospital her father sent he back to Hong Kong to stay with her Uncle who ran a theatre company.
At the age of 26 she moved back to Gotham to live again with her father. Chun Lee's success meant that he had a large amount of money although he never found time to use it himself but he did not deny it to his daughter.
With her father still spending his time working Sue Lei was taken under the wing of Marguerite Sinclair, an old friend of her mothers. Marguerite or Auntie as she is known to Sue Lei took the young girl and introduced her to Gotham society, treating her as if she is a long lost daughter. Between them the two women share an understanding that never has to be spoken about and their relationship is stronger than most mothers and daughters.
Through her involvement with the Sinclair’s Sue Lei is able to take a job with Dusk Industries and head up the Public Relations department. This puts her into contact with a lot of influential people, be they businessmen or politicians as she negotiates works with Dusk on the various charities that it supports.
It was working at Dusk that brought Sue Lei into contact with one of her best friends. Petra Parker is a news reporter from the Gotham Herald. Together the two women are outrageous gossips and quite often will be seen out together or speaking with the other on the phone. There is some debate as to whether Marguerite Sinclair is grooming the two women as her protégés and the Lord help Gotham Society if it was true.
Sue Lei is also the best of friends with Detective Cody Brannigan who used to be her brothers partner on the force. She sees Cody as a brother and is always comfortable around him, trusting him above all others.
With the work at dusk and the constant social life Sue Lei found other things to do in her spare time. To amuse herself she out fitted her house with state of the art security systems and then tried to break back in. She got very good at it and started to develop tools to use and it was getting these items together that she first came into contact with Panic. They became firm friends although not lovers, despite Panics occasional drunken amorous advances. It was Panic that heard that Khan Ackril was interested in a gemstone called the Bezilli Stone, he told Sue Lee about this and she decided to steal it.
The theft came off without a hitch and was the start of a working relationship between the two. Sue Lee continues to steal art items under the guise of Opium and fences them through Panic. As Opium she is slowing trying to gather evidence on the activities of Khan Ackril and his associates.
Sue Lei recruited her cousin, Toby Wong to assist with the Opium Project. Together they scheme to undermine Khan Ackril’s shadowy criminal empire and seek revenge for the death of Chang Lei.
