Dillon MacRoth
ap Scathatch

'Redcaps Bane'
Commander of the Liath Faireoirí - the Grey Watch

Before Dillon McRoth (Patrick Jameson) was at Banockburn with his oldest brother (dead) and 2 cousins, his entire family, including another older brother and several sisters were slaughtered by redcaps under the command of Billy Bedlam. The redcap waited alone to dispatch the last of the line and the two fought atop the cliffs of the McRoth's manor. Dillon received a fearsome wound to his face from the nightmare tusks of his adversary. Bedlam taunted the sidhe with news that one of his line was spared and taken away "as breeding stock for the Formorians and the true Fae nobility!" His eldest sister, Lorna, was missing and Dillon has never seen her again. His rage was almost akin to that of the Cuculhain as he severed Bedlams leg and the pair of them fell into the storm tossed seas below, clutching at each other's throats and screaming their wrath into the uncaring wind. Dillon dragged himself from the benighted waves, but could find no sign of his nemesis.

He took his family blades and swore an oath of revenge on the pyres of his murdered family.

Rumours of Billy Bedlam leading Irish mercenaries at Banockburn led the young Scathach there and into an endless quest for the murderer of his family. The redcap mothers would tease their childlings with tales of the evil Dillon McRoth coming to get them if they didn't eat all their Dreamers.

By the 1600's, Dillon began to tire of his lonely and cursed existence. He came across a maid enslaved to a witch, and rescued her. He spent a century with the woman he never knew her name or past. She would only tell him that it was stolen from her by the witch. He called her wife or a mhuirnín (my beloved), and was satisfied.

Together they had two daughters, Tchena and 'Greoche [gee-ock] storm', who he lost, along with their mother, while they were but toddlers. Dillon came home one day and they were gone, amid signs of a hurried escape. Dillon searched for them but eventually as his quest once again became an obsession, Dillon began to forget the dreaming and his past and to fixated on his revenge. One night, after centuries of endless hunting where Billy Bedlam and Dillon slew countless pawns and allies but never again faced each other, he became undone and settled down to the life of a crotchety mortal hermit. It never occurred to him that he hated this life or that he never aged.

Recently, Dillon reawoke but doesn't know how. The knight awoke in a draughty tower along with provisions and his possessions. Signs that he had been nursed by somebody, a female from the clues. Such as a jeweled comb with long black hair in it and a ring with the symbology of an eye. The towers exterior was built with odd coloured bricks that depicted a serpent entwined about its circumference.

The tower, which stood in the lake district, faded away as Dillon watched it and it never reappeared in either the dreaming or the real world. Dillon only had to touch his scared face with his delicate, but calloused hands to remember the reasons for his every breath and set off into a wilderness greatly changed from the one he remembered.

Working as a mercenary in the south, Dillon built up a reputation under the name McBrennon and began to wear a chimerical mask to cover his unmistakable scar. When the Civil war began to break in London, Dillon Mac Roth found work easy to come by. His skills as a monster hunter and a Redcap killer earnt him the Regents coin for several seasons until he eventually took a permanant position in the Fionna retinue.

Joining the Regency oathcircle after it returned from the fateful trip into the dreaming that resulted in the Regents death, Dillon Mac Roth became one of Lady Evelynn's favourites. Feared by Redcaps, this assassin knight has been declared as No 1 suspect in several crimes by the Gwydion estates and more than one peace talk has disolved because the Fionna refuse to offer his head as part of any treaty. It is no secret that Sylvannus and sir Dillon often butted heads in the field, now that the Earl has retired from active life to govern the New Cross gate Freehold, Dillon only has to deal with the irrespressible pooka and her Dominatrix redcap friend to keep the Oathcircle on track. With a new title comes a new responsibility and the founding of the Liath Faireoirí (the Grey watchers) has tied up a great deal of the Scatatchs time. Dillon now finds himself Battling a return to Bedlam with a part time job in calamity's Bar, whilst raising his adoptive daughter Alice and protecting the Royal Line of British Fionna and searching for the Ard Righ.
