...CANES SERPENTIS...
Last Updated:

1 Eyes of the Serpent
Unlike the Setites whose powers develop alongside the Spirit of Cobra, Canes Serpentis grants no hypnotism, but all perception pools get +3 due to infra red and heat vision. The Ahua Can develop small heat sensitive pits in their faces that give them perfect night sight via temperature sensitivity. Even the loss of eyes will have no discernable effect on their perception.

2 Tongue of the Asp
As Cobra Serpentis.

3 Skin of the Viper
Unlike the benefits of the traditional Setite Skin of the Adder, the Ahua Can are able to attempt to soak damage from Sunlight, but still not Fire. She does not however get the +1 to bite damage. Rattlers like to bathe in the Desert Sun and some of this has passed onto the Ahua Can. It is possible that other Non Setite Vampires who learn the third level of Serpentis might gain similar effects as they do not share the Core' Follower of Set' weakness to light.

4 Form of Coatlicue
The Form of Coatlicue is a Half snake half Human war form, allowing the Ahua Can great speed and strength as well as a fearful visage. The shape shift takes three turns and a blood point or three blood points and a single turn. The Ahua Can's lower body becomes a strong rattlesnakes tail from the waist allowing her to move at twice her usual speed. Scales add +2 to soak roles and the increased body mass grants; Str: +3, Dex: +2, Sta: +3, App: -2, her Wits Pool is effectively doubled for figuring initiative. Her tail does Strength +2 , bashing damage and her bite does Strength +2. In addition she can kill with Constriction because all Grapple rolls including damage are at +3.

5 The Rattle of Cihuacaotyl
This Eerie sound causes terror in all who hear it. Named after a goddess whose roaring signalled War. Those hearing the sound must make an opposed courage roll against the Ahua Can's Manipulation + Intimidation or fall into Rotschreck (Fear frenzy). Mortals will usually just become paralysed with fear.

Advanced Disciplines
While either of the Bloodlines can learn these two level 6 effects, each is clearly favoured by one or other of the disparate groups. The Itzcoatl are masters of the Night wind and its urban usages, but they also find the marks of the Diamondback useful for their havens. The Ahua Can on the other hand prefer to live in rural areas and away from civilization. They use the Marks of Diamondback in order to protect themselves and their Herds from intrusion. The Night wind, for them, is employed simply as a travel aid or as an additional 'God like' power.

6 Marks of the Diamondback
Mystical markings that communicate the danger inherent in the Ahua Can. The marks of Diamondback cause all sentient creatures to avoid the Ahua Can and her resting place. When employed this Discipline grants the equivalent of an Arcane Background of 5, for the vampire, Her Haven and Herd. Without a vast expenditure of Willpower, others will go out of their way not to approach the Vampires or thier Haven. This level of Ahua Can serpentis is directly responsible for the large amount of still undiscovered cities and tribes in South America. The victims of this subtle influence will never be aware of their avoidance, but will find themselves unconsciously making choices that lead them away from the Ahua Can's resting place. This power shields the target from electronic surveillance as well as devoted cartographers and explorers.
People will also ignore the Ahua Can in a crowd or overlook her face in an identity parade. Unless the Vampire is standing alone in the middle of an empty field in the nude, he will remained unseen.
A strange side effect of this power is that it becomes more powerful if employed by older vampires or by groups of Ahua Can. Ahua Can with Childer and followers close by are able to cloak much larger edifice and groups of people. The eldest of the Clan sleep beneath vast cities never seen by white men.

6 Cloak of Nahuaque, (Night Wind).
Nahuaque grants the Ahua Can the ability to pass unseen through villages and towns like the winds. This Discipline does not make the Vampire invisible or cloaked in any visual way, but it will cause People to leave the streets or avoid looking directly at the source of the ill wind. Those who can find somewhere else to be, will do so, leaving only the weak and elderly or maybe the homeless to witness the passing of the Ahua Can.
In addition, Rattlesnake has taught his children how to move across the earth as he does, unfettered by the shifting sand or other restriction. The Ahua Can truly do pass like the night wind leaving no footprints or tell tale signs of thier passing, no broken twigs or spilt blood and no scent trails for animals to follow. The only way to track am Ahua Can using the cloak of Nahuaque is to overcome the fear it generates and follow by sight. Itzcoatl who deal too often with the infernal find this power invaluable in hiding thier Infernal taint.
The final benefit of this power from Rattlesnake is his ability to avoid entanglement. No matter how many twigs serve to hamper or wet mud seeks to swollow her feet she will not be slowed or tripped by her environment.
SYSTEM: The Ahua Can Spends a Blood point and roles Manipulation + Stealth (difficulty 7) to cloak herself and only those who can achieve more successes on a Willpower Roll (Difficulty 8) will be able to resist the Night wind. As for passing over the land like a Sidewinder over sand, there is no Roll needed, only the expenditure of the Blood point.

7 Gift of Xipe Totec
The flayed Lord and those Ahua Can who shared his abilities could Shed their old skin just as a rattlesnake does and put on the flayed skin of a sacrificed victim, thus assuming that persons form. The Ahua Can's mass shifts to fill the stolen skin, it is in all intense and purpose an assisted shape change ability and all attempts to see through the disguise should be prohibitively high. The vampire literally becomes the new person in all physical ways, but will gain none of their powers, weaknesses or knowledges.

7 Feathered Serpent
At this level the Ahua Can will grow wings and be capable of limited flight in a single turn. A gift of Quetzalcoatl. Tonatiuh the soaring Eagle made great use of this power to impress his followers, causing them to accept his ascension to Godhood with his colourful wings.

Little is known by traditional researchers about the pyramids of Teotihuacan (pronounced tay-oh-tee-wah-con, and simply referred to as "Teo" by the locals). Built by the Toltecs, Teo was once a city the size of ancient Athens and Rome. It thrived as the primary center of learning and culture in America for over one thousand years, before it was abandoned about fifteen-hundred years ago.
According to legend, after the fall of Teotihuacan, two major paths of sacred knowledge formed. One Toltec path went to Tula near present day Hidalgo. The magic of Tula can be compared to what our culture might term "black magic."
The generally more enlightened path called the Path of Freedom went south toward Xochicalco, near present day Cuernavaca, and also eventually went into hiding.

The Path of Freedom
The Toltec came together as Toltec masters and students at Teotihuacan, the ancient city of pyramids outside Mexico City known as the place where "Man becomes God".

Sight of ????????
The ancient Toltec knew that our "reason's" perception of reality was just a point of view, one that generally doesn't consider how we fit into an expanding, living, intelligent universe. Shifting the source of our personal power from our mind to our spirit allows us to access "silent knowledge" and create the energy necessary to remember what we have forgotten.

The rite of Ixtab (Mayan)
The suicide goddess was called Ixtab. She is always represented with a rope around her neck. The Mayans believed that suicides would lead you to heaven. Hence, it was very common for suicides to happen because of depression or even for something trivial. Mayans and later Aztecs were unafraid of being sacrificed, it was ingrained in their culture. Life and Blood fed reality and the Gods, keeping the world turning and the darkness at bay.
When a Mortal came willingly to the Priestess' among the Ahua can, they were welcomed with great rejocing.
