LAIBON

By way of an appology!
I was once presented with the unenviable task of having to run a game for my regular Changeling troupe sans the most important character of the moment, his player having gone on a month's sabbatical to Portugal on the promise of a romantic interlude*. The story had reached a pivotal point and I had no wish to play this Character myself and thus con my friend out of an integral part of his Characters story. So I had to come up with a game to fill 3 or 4 sessions within 24 hours. I am crap at things that involve an end, I just can't do it and thus was uneasy with this task. However I realised that this was an opportunity to twink out and allow a cross over game without it tainting my other games and so I run an adventure based in Africa with the premise that an uneasy Supernatural alliance had come together to investigate the

Endless Storm Pride of Simba currently ravaging the Dark Continent. I had a Naga, a Mokole, a Swara and lo and behold, someone wanted to play a Vampire. In a moment of what I thought was genius I allowed a lone Laibon. Extrapolating from the information in Vampire: the Dark Ages that tells us the Laibon 'Clan' were still creeping around the world of Darkness in the final nights I came up with this premise. - Spike

Those who call themselves Kindred believe Caine to be the only one given the dark gift by Lilith, and we allow them their folly. But the first thing any Laibon learns is the tales of the 'others'. Caine had siblings, younger brothers and sisters, one of these was named Kabala according to modern names, you do not need to know her true name.

It is from Kabala that we descend. Our Dark progenitress sired a single daughter, Sphinx, who in turn embraced Kamiri wa Itherero. It is from him that we Laibon trace our lineage. But Sphinx also embraced many of her people, our sisters, the Kabal. If we are careful to keep a low profile, they are driven to it. Their own race seeks to end their Unlives. For the Vampires of the Kabal Clan are Shapeshifters and their kin the witchdoctors of the Dark Kingdom. The tribes of Africa are no more aware that the enigmatic priests and priestesses that guide them in times of strife are in fact Vampire than they are of where the Kabal go when the sun rises.

We of course are not cursed by the Caananites storm god. Neither the Laibon nor the Kabal need fear that the blessings of father sun will end our Unlives, but it damage us because we are born of darkness**. We are not dead, but truly alive without the descent into twilight. We can eat the food and drink the water that mother Earth provides with impunity. We drink blood to sate the ravenous beast, our source of power and as a sacrament to our Dark mother.

Before you are allowed to leave the Clan, you will learn all the skills of Clan impersonation and deceit as well as how to survive in the Wilds. Whether you be Warrior, shaman or wanderer you will never reveal these truths to those among whom you must dwell. For we have always kept our Masquerade and our Occult, we have no choice. We never bred like burrowing rodents and spread beyond our means to support ourselves. A war between the children of Caine and the Children of Kabala would see our demise within mere months.

SOBRIQUET: Sphinxes

APPEARANCE: Although almost 80% of the Laibon are natives of southern Africa, there are a few other races embraced over the last two centuries. The Laibon Clan seeks to keep a foothold within the Sect's and uses Clan infiltration in varying degrees to accomplish this feat. That being said the Clan as a whole tend to favour African tribal motiff and the ethnic images of thier mortal days.

HAVEN: Infiltrators will dwell in havens appropriate to their clan, Wanderers will dwell wherever they need to and the core clan dwell within their villages and townships with Africa. These Laibon often dwell within the most sturdy and sun proof dwelling within a village, possibly the only brick built structure for miles.

BACKGROUND: As dark Ages companion

CHARACTER CREATION: As dark Ages companion, but roads of the beast has become far more common in the modern nights.

CLAN DISCIPLINES: Abombwe, Animalism WARRIORS; Fortitude SHAMENS; Spiritus (Ahrimane discipline) WANDERERS; any Clan discipline (for clan impersonation) most often protean

WEAKNESS: As dark Ages companion, plus it is simply not possible for Laibon to reveal the truth of their lineage to anyone except another true Laibon. This magical geas is unbreakable and should a Laibon attempt to do so within earshot (or surveillance) of a non-Laibon his vocal chords will ALWAYS refuse to respond. The nature of this Magical weakness bears many similarities to the curse placed upon the Assamites by the Tremere and thus is additional to any curse that may have been placed upon them by a Clan founder.

ORGANIZATION: The Laibon serve three functions in the service to their clan. Most numerous are the Shaman, those Vampires who deal with the Spirits of nature and with the Beast itself. Secondly are the Warriors, those who hone their skills to face the coming apocalypse and the enemies of the Clan. The last and most often encountered Laibon are the wanderers, those who leave the African planes of their homes to wander the Dark Continent and beyond. Many of these wanders learn the skills of Clan impersonation in order to survive. They are usually Vampires gifted with a knack for deceit and adaptation and their traits will often represent this.

QUOTE:
"We are the Laibon. Those who walk in the darkest places. We are not, and have never been, Cainites. We are Vampires. We are the Laibon!"

*the names have been changed but y'all know who you is! And No character is more important than any other, its just that the focus shifts. I lurve all my widdle vict ... erm, players, equally!!
**Optional
All Laibon can soak sunlight and do not take aggravated damage from it, merely lethal damage. If reduced to zero health levels but no further, the Laibon will slip into torpor. Further damage will of course result in death. Laibon can walk unharmed in clouded or obscured sunlight, but at -2 to their dice pools.
